In this extraordinary event, we are proud to present two of the greatest guitarists you never heard of in an evening of music very gentle on the ears.
Don Bikoff released an amazing, critically acclaimed album, Celestial Explosion, in 1968 at the ripe old age of 22. He played Greenwich Village coffee houses and even did some TV. Then he disappeared from the music scene. For almost 40 years. Nonetheless, he maintained his commitment to music and developed a unique style reminiscent of John Fahey and Leo Kottke, spiced with Asian inflections. Tompkins Square records re-released the record last year, again to critical acclaim, and a second album has been released this year. Lately, Don's been touring and playing music that's as fresh and distinct as ever.
Now 17, Jonathan Bodian has been playing guitar since he was 8, and performing at Last Licks open mics for most of those years. He attends Juilliard precollege and has performed at many New York venues. He recently won first place in the Tri State High School Guitar Competition held at C W Post. In addition to classical repertoire, Jonathan dabbles in whatever non-classical genres strike his fancy.
